Today, we’re happy to present MoneyWiz 2 for Apple Watch.

We’ve built MoneyWiz 2 for watch with simplicity in mind. We wanted to allow you to enter transactions on the go, without taking your phone out of your pocket. We also wanted to allow you quick access to your accounts balances. Imagine you’re out to buy something or pay the bill in a restaurant but you’re not quite sure which of your accounts has the sufficient funds – just open MoneyWiz on your Apple Watch, tap on “Accounts” and you will see a list of all your accounts with their balances.

Once the Apple Watch is released, MoneyWiz 2 will be available for it for free, with your MoneyWiz iOS purchase (including to all existing MoneyWiz 2 for iOS customers).

Here’s an overview of the functionality by screen:

Main screen presents four buttons – Expense, Income, Accounts and Settings.

Creating an expense or income follows the same process – you first enter the amount, then you choose the account, the category and optionally the payee. The transaction is then posted into MoneyWiz where you can later edit it if needed.

The Accounts screen shows all your accounts with their balances. If you force touch on any account you will see an additional menu with the option to quickly create an income or an expense.

In the Settings screen you can set whether you want to select payee when creating transactions via the Apple Watch. You can also select one of 7 themes that match the color of your watch.

One more thing…

Make sure to check out the Apple Watch preview of our other app: MileWiz – Automatic Mileage Tracking & Tax Reporting.

Update 1 May 2015

We’ve made some design changes in MoneyWiz 2 for Apple Watch, to make the looks feel more native on the Apple Watch, now that we have it in the office. Please check out the new design:

  • I can’t wait! I’m loving MW for iPhone, and this is going to make it even better.

  • Is there a plan to delivery an Android Wear version?

    • We’re now focused on releasing MoneyWiz 2 for Android…once we do that, we’ll consider Android Wear apps as well.

  • Are you being serious? Don’t you think that Moneywiz 2 for Android is far more important than the Apple Watch? My point of view is that you have the best synchronisation system, which is why I am staying with Moneywiz (I don’t need to connect to my bank, I want something simple that works). Please don’t forget that you have a lot of customers that are just looking for a simple and beautiful (you still have some work on this one) personal finance app.

    • The Android & Watch apps are done by different teams, so doing the Watch app doesn’t mean any delay for the Android app… the Android app is in its final stages now, and we’ll probably start the beta program in 2 weeks from now.

    • Totally agree. Even the application for Mac leaves much to be done. Best undoubtedly synchronization.

    • don’t get me wrong im excited for the new watch feature, but there are quite a few bugs in the current version that makes this un usable for me. There’s an calendar bug, there’s also another bug that doesn’t let you delete your accounts properly.

      • Hi,

Are you sure you are running the latest version? I don’t believe we have a calendar bug there or bug related to deleting accounts… if you think there are such bugs please e-mail our support and they’ll look into it.

    • This is a bug that only affects some users in MoneyWiz 1.6.1, it’s not bug in MoneyWiz 2. Please e-mail our support for resolution of this.

  • I’d love to see a ‘quick transaction’ feature. For example I always withdraw the same amount of cash from the ATM – it’d be great if I could enter this into Moneywiz with 1 click via the watch.

  • I too am a anxious follower of this outstanding app. I’m still just using it as a backup for now until we can get an option to remove the use of icons and choose to have words showing.
An icon for education is not cutting it when I really need to know if it was for tuition or supplies or something else without having to tap the transaction to figure it out.
This is really holding us back!
Overall your app and commitment is awesome I just can’t wait to be a full timer

    • Hi Wiz,

We know some people prefer a view without the icons and we plan to add this as an option after we release MoneyWiz 2 for Android and Windows. The reason we’re not adding this option now is that it will delay the Android & Windows releases as we’ll have to port it there as well. But once those two are out, we’ll add the option to hide the icons. As for tapping on a transaction to expand it – please know that you can re-arrange what data you see in the list of transactions before tapping, via Settings / Transaction Layout. Whatever field is at the top, it will be shown in the list of transactions prior to tapping.
We’re also considering to make different options about how much info we show per transaction without tapping, but this again will come after MoneyWiz 2 for Android & Windows is released.

We’re closing in on the Android final stage of development but final release date is still unknown. You can use the beta version though, if you want. Feel free to e-mail our support to request beta access.

  • Hi, I am using MW 1 on Mac and iPhone and very happy with it. Do I really need to upgrade to MW2 knowing that I am not interested in online banking? And if I want to, is it going to be enough to buy the app and not paying any monthly subscription?

    Reply
    • Hi Rami,

You are not obligated to upgrade to MoneyWiz 2, at all. MoneyWiz 1 will continue to work just the same.
MoneyWiz 2 has a lot of new features, it’s not just the online banking actually…you can learn more here:
      http://moneywizapp.com/whats-new/

I must also point out, that all future features will be added in MoneyWiz 2, not MoneyWiz 1.

Also if you decide to upgrade, you do not need to subscribe to the online banking. This is an optional service, and you can easily use MoneyWiz 2 without it, just the way you used MoneyWiz 1. Upgrading to MoneyWiz 2 will give you tons of new features, new device support etc, but Online Banking is absolutely optional.

Having problems with moneywiz and apple watch. Under expenses I can enter the amount. The app then “hangs” on accounts. If I get past this screen, it hangs on the next. By hanging I mean all you get is a blank screen.

    • Hi Todd,

Give it some time to load the list…the Apple Watch is a rather slow device, and it takes time to load any sort of data that is not stored locally. In WatchOS 2 Apple will allow us (the developers) to store data locally to make loading it faster. But WatchOS 2 will be released this fall.

    • Same for me too. It just hangs which defeats the point of the convenience of the Apple Watch App. Is this something Moneywiz are working on?

      • Rob, as I replied Todd:

As for WatchOS 2 – so far it’s looking worse than WatchOS 1…sorry but this is a complaint you have to take with Apple. I personally have an Apple Watch and I find ALL non-Apple apps to be completely useless due to performance issues. If you have different experience, please let me know.

  • Interestingly, the app will even allow you to select one of seven different color themes that match the color of the watch.

  • There are two version of Moneywiz 2 in the App Store, with similar descriptions but somewhat different icons. I am trying to work out the difference between them (I have the earlier one and do not use online banking). As far as I can see the most recent one has added a charge for ‘manual transactions’. What is this? Would there be any benefit to me in upgrading from the original Moneywiz 2 version? At the moment it looks as though it would mean I have to pay for something which is presently included! I use Moneywiz 2 A LOT. Great app!

    • Hi Kate,

The two versions are with the same functionality. The only difference is the pricing model + the fact that the free version serves as a demo as well. The free version is actually subscription based. You can find out more about the differences here:

    Hello there,
I like this app so much. However, I don’t know how to use the Tag(Label) feature on Apple Watch?
I would like to use this feature so much. Maybe, you can add the option to modify essential fields for adding new transaction. So, users can customize what they would like to keep on the transaction.

    Thanks.
